Intensive therapy

Intensive EMDR therapy

A focused, in-person space for deeper healing from trauma.

In an intensive, we meet for longer sessions over one or more days in my consulting room in Henleaze, Bristol. This extended time allows us to stay with the work more deeply — without the disruption of starting and stopping week by week. It is a way of giving yourself the time, attention, and support that healing really needs.

I work in a trauma-focused and relational way, drawing on EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS Level 1), and psychodynamic therapy. Our work might involve processing painful or stuck memories, exploring how early relationships shaped your sense of self, and reconnecting with the parts of you that have learned to survive in ways that once made sense.

Every intensive is carefully tailored. We begin with a thorough in-person consultation to understand your needs, ensure you feel safe and supported, and prepare your system for the work ahead. What follows is grounded, focused, and often transformative — because you are not just talking about the past; you are actively processing it.

This kind of work can be emotional, sometimes challenging — but you do not have to do it alone. We will move at your pace, with care, honesty, and deep respect for your story.

The programme

What is offered

Assessment, a structured intensive, and a six-month follow-up — all in person in Henleaze.

Your intensive therapeutic programme includes an initial assessment session that lasts for one hour, charged separately from the intensive therapy fee. The assessment helps us understand your history, agree whether an intensive is appropriate, and tailor the work. It also gives you the chance to see whether we are a good fit — in the room, not on a call.

The full programme is a structured 4-day intensive, with each day consisting of 4-hour sessions, typically beginning around 9 a.m. The work blends Attachment Informed EMDR and psychodynamic therapy, so we can address both the emotional attachment aspects and the deeper psychological processes underlying trauma.

After the 4-day intensive, a follow-up session is scheduled six months later. This follow-up is included in the overall fee. It is designed to evaluate your progress, provide additional support, and address any ongoing or new concerns. Like all of the work, it takes place in person in Henleaze.

2- and 3-day intensives are also available, with fees depending on duration and what the work requires.

What to expect from each day

Introduction and history

We begin by reviewing your personal history and the themes you wish to address. This may include specific traumatic experiences, patterns of behaviour, or emotional challenges. The process is thorough and may take longer than the first hour; flexibility is built in so we set a solid foundation.

Break

After approximately two hours we take a 20-minute break. There are refreshments, and space for ordinary conversation so you can relax and reset.

Theme selection and EMDR processing

After the break we decide together on the targets or themes to work on, then begin EMDR processing. The aim is to work through the chosen theme in the remaining two hours.

Repeat across the intensive

This structure is repeated each day until the identified themes have been processed and addressed, at a pace that respects your system.
